Commercial Pilot License (CPL)

The Commercial Pilot License (CPL) Course is intended for students who have completed their Private Pilot License (PPL) and are aiming to advance their aviation training toward a professional career. This program focuses on developing the knowledge, flight experience, and decision-making skills required to safely operate aircraft in visual flight conditions under commercial standards.

The training combines ground school instruction with hands-on flight training, emphasizing advanced aircraft handling, cross-country navigation, crew resource management, and emergency procedures. All training is conducted using actual aircraft to ensure students build practical experience and proficiency appropriate for higher-level flight operations.

Upon completion, graduates will be eligible for a DGCA-issued CPL, enabling them to pursue various aviation career pathways and continue to advanced qualifications such as Instrument Rating (IR) and Airline Transport Pilot License (ATPL). The program typically runs for approximately six (6) months, depending on student performance, weather conditions, and regulatory processing.

Frequently Asked Questions

Direct answers to your most pressing questions about the Commercial Pilot License (CPL)

Earning an Indonesian DGCA Commercial Pilot License (CPL) legally unlocks the privilege to act as pilot-in-command of an aircraft for financial remuneration and commercial employment. CPL holders can pursue aviation careers across general aviation, VIP charter operations, aerial photography, cargo transport, and emergency medical services. When combined with a Certified Flight Instructor (CFI), commercial pilots can earn income building flight hours teaching student pilots. Furthermore, the CPL is the mandatory regulatory foundation required before a pilot can be hired as a First Officer by regional and commercial scheduled airlines.

While a standalone Commercial Pilot License legally permits a pilot to fly for commercial compensation under visual flight conditions, scheduled commercial airlines require an Instrument Rating (IR). Modern airliners operate under Instrument Flight Rules (IFR) through clouds, fog, and complex controlled airspace at all times, making all-weather instrument flying capability mandatory for airline pilots. Without an Instrument Rating, a commercial pilot is limited to day visual flight operations in general aviation or aerial survey roles. For this reason, AAG Indonesia strongly advises all aspiring airline cadets to enroll in our integrated CPL-IR curriculum.

To enroll in the CPL course, applicants must be at least 18 years old and hold a valid DGCA Private Pilot License (PPL) with verified logbook records. Candidates must possess a current, unrestricted DGCA Class 1 Medical Certificate from Balai Kesehatan Penerbangan Kemayoran, as Class 1 medical fitness is mandatory for commercial privileges. Applicants must also provide proof of English proficiency through an official TOEIC score of at least 700 and submit a clean police clearance letter (SKCK). Finally, incoming students must pass a pre-entry flight evaluation and technical interview with AAG Indonesia’s flight operations team.

To become an AAG Indonesia CPL cadet, you must meet basic requirements. Compile your application dossier, and pass the selection process including psychological profiling, math/physics assessments, an aptitude test, and an interview.
