Flight Instructor Refresher Course (FIRC)

The Flight Instructor Refresher Course (FIRC) is designed for licensed flight instructors who wish to renew their qualifications and maintain their instructional proficiency. This program reinforces the essential knowledge, teaching techniques, and operational skills required to continue providing effective and safety-focused flight instruction.

The course includes ground school sessions covering updates in regulations, instructional methodologies, training standards, and best practices in aviation education. Instructors will also undergo refresher flight training to review core maneuvers, instructional demonstrations, and safety procedures under the guidance of experienced examiner-instructors.

Upon completion, graduates will meet the requirements for the renewal of their DGCA Flight Instructor License, enabling them to continue delivering certified flight instruction and supporting the development of future pilots. The program typically runs for approximately one (1) month, depending on instructor scheduling and regulatory processing.

Frequently Asked Questions

Direct answers to your most pressing questions about the Flight Instructor Refresher Course (FIRC)

Under Indonesian civil aviation safety regulations (CASR Part 61), all active Certified Flight Instructors (CFI) are legally mandated to attend an approved Flight Instructor Refresher Course (FIRC) every 24 months to renew their instructional privileges. If an instructor allows their certificate to expire without completing this approved refresher training, they lose their legal authority to instruct students or sign off pilot logbooks.

The FIRC ground school provides 19.5- to 40-hour theoretical review covering the latest amendments to Indonesian CASR regulations, national airspace reclassifications, and updated DGCA flight test standards. Instructors analyze recent general aviation incident reports, examining human factors, threat and error management (TEM), and Safety Management System (SMS) reporting protocols.

Recognizing that practicing flight instructors maintain demanding operational and flight line schedules, AAG Indonesia delivers the FIRC with flexible executive scheduling. A flexible format allows working professional instructors to fulfill their mandatory classroom hours without disrupting their daily flight teaching commitments. Following the completion of ground lectures, candidates can easily schedule their brief practical flight review at our Batam flight operations base.

Upon successful completion of both the theoretical ground modules and the practical flight review, AAG Indonesia issues an official FIRC Certificate of Completion and a certified Chief Flight Instructor endorsement dossier.
