Commercial Pilot License And Instrument Rating (CPL-IR)

The Commercial Pilot License – Instrument Rating (CPL-IR) Course is designed for students who have completed their Private Pilot License (PPL) and are seeking to advance their aviation training toward a professional pilot career. This integrated program develops the knowledge, flight experience, and decision-making skills required to operate aircraft safely in both visual and instrument flight conditions under commercial standards.

The training combines ground school instruction with extensive flight training, emphasizing advanced aircraft handling, cross-country navigation, crew resource management, emergency procedures, and instrument flight operations. Students will train using a combination of actual aircraft and DGCA-approved simulators to ensure they develop strong technical proficiency and operational discipline for both VFR and IFR environments.

Upon completion, graduates will be eligible for a DGCA-issued CPL with Instrument Rating (IR), providing the qualifications needed to pursue a wide range of aviation career pathways and continue to advanced training such as the Airline Transport Pilot License (ATPL). The program typically runs for approximately eight (8) months, depending on student performance, weather conditions, and regulatory processing.

Frequently Asked Questions

Direct answers to your most pressing questions about the Commercial Pilot License And Instrument Rating (CPL-IR)

Because commercial airliners fly day and night in all weather conditions using Instrument Flight Rules (IFR), airlines require a dual CPL-IR. Having both licenses proves you possess commercial command judgment and the technical skill to navigate completely by instruments in zero-visibility weather. Airlines will not consider applicants who lack this crucial combined qualification.

AAG Indonesia’s integrated CPL-IR course combines commercial and instrument training into an efficient 8-month curriculum. By synchronizing visual cross-country flights with instrument procedures, it eliminates redundant ground lessons and optimizes aircraft scheduling. This approach saves months compared to standalone modular courses, lowering local living costs in Batam while providing value and high return on investment.

Applicants seeking enrollment in the CPL-IR program must submit their official DGCA Private Pilot License, certified pilot logbook, high school or university academic diplomas, and a valid DGCA Class 1 Medical Certificate. Candidates must also provide an official TOEIC certificate demonstrating a score of at least 700, an Indonesian Police Screening Letter (SKCK), and recent formal passport photographs. For foreign applicants, a valid passport and Indonesian Air Force (TNI-AU) security clearance are additionally required. Our admissions team reviews all submitted dossiers promptly.

To become an AAG Indonesia CPL-IR cadet, you must meet basic requirements. Compile your application dossier, and pass the selection process including psychological profiling, math/physics assessments, an aptitude test, and an interview.
