Private Pilot License (PPL)

The Private Pilot License (PPL) Program is designed for individuals who wish to begin their aviation journey and gain the skills to operate an aircraft for personal or recreational purposes. The program combines comprehensive ground school instruction with hands-on flight training, ensuring students develop the knowledge, confidence, and proficiency required to meet the licensing standards of the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) of Indonesia.

Upon completion, graduates will be eligible to obtain a DGCA-issued PPL, allowing them to fly single-engine aircraft for non-commercial purposes and providing the essential foundation for more advanced pilot training. The course runs for approximately five (5) months, subject to student performance, weather conditions, and regulatory processing.

The training phases of the PPL are as follows:

PhaseDurations
GroundFlight Training
Private Pilot License (PPL)70 hours35 hours
Checkride–1 hours
TOTAL70 hours36 Flight Hours

Note: Training duration may vary depending on weather, DGCA document processing, and trainee progress/performance.

Ready to take the first step toward your aviation career? At Alpha Aviation Group (AAG) Indonesia, we have streamlined our admission process to ensure we select candidates who are truly prepared for the rigors and rewards of commercial flight training.

Here is what you can expect during your admission journey:

  1. Admission Fee: Your application process begins with the settlement of the standard admission fee, which formally registers your intent to join our academy.
  2. Psychological Profiling: Because being a pilot requires sharp mental resilience and strong decision-making skills, you will undergo a comprehensive psychological profiling assessment conducted by an officially appointed institution.
  3. Basic Math & Physics Assessment (for Non-Science High School Graduates): A strong foundation in science and mathematics is crucial for understanding aeronautical theory. If you graduated from a non-science high school track, you will complete a straightforward assessment in Basic Math and Physics to ensure you are fully prepared for our ground school curriculum.
  4. Aptitude Test: To evaluate your natural spatial awareness, multitasking ability, and hand-eye coordination. This test is essential for any successful aviator. You will participate in a specialized Aptitude Test held at our Batam facility.
  5. Final Interview: The final step before earning your place in the program is a personal interview conducted directly by our Chief Instructor and the Principal or School Administrator in Batam. Frequently Asked Questions

Direct answers to your most pressing questions about the Private Pilot License (PPL)

An Indonesian DGCA Private Pilot License (PPL) grants the legal privilege to act as pilot-in-command of a single-engine aircraft within Indonesia airspace. PPL holders are legally restricted to flying under Visual Flight Rules (VFR), meaning pilots must maintain clear visual reference to the ground and stay outside clouds. Most importantly, civil aviation regulations prohibit private pilots from receiving financial compensation or commercial remuneration for their flying services. The PPL serves as the foundational credential for recreational aviators and aspiring commercial pilots.

Before a flight instructor authorizes a student pilot to depart on first solo cross-country flight, the cadet must demonstrate mastery of core piloting competencies. The student must prove consistent proficiency in crosswind takeoffs and landings, simulated engine-out forced landings, recovery from aerodynamic stalls, and spatial orientation. Furthermore, the cadet must demonstrate thorough pre-flight flight planning, including calculating wind drift, magnetic headings, fuel burn reserves, and airspace boundaries. Finally, the student must pass an oral evaluation on weather minimums, emergency diversion procedures, and radio communication protocols.

To enroll in the Private Pilot License course at AAG Indonesia, candidates must be at least 17 years old and hold a recognized senior high school diploma (SMA, SMK, or international equivalent). Applicants must pass an official aviation medical examination and hold a valid DGCA Class 2 Medical Certificate (though a Class 1 is strongly recommended for those continuing to commercial licensing). Candidates must also demonstrate functional English proficiency by presenting an official TOEIC score of at least 700 (or 600 for select tracks) and submit an Indonesian police clearance (SKCK), or issued by your home country (for international/foreign students)

Yes, the Private Pilot License program is designed as the direct launching pad for advanced professional flight certifications at AAG Indonesia. All 36 practical flight hours and aeronautical knowledge competencies logged during the PPL course count directly toward fulfilling DGCA commercial license prerequisites. Upon passing PPL checkride, cadets can roll over into Commercial Pilot License (CPL) and Instrument Rating (IR) programs without administrative delays or repeating modules. Our unified fleet and instructional continuity ensure a smooth, cost-efficient progression from private pilot to fully qualified commercial aviator.

To become an AAG Indonesia PPL cadet, you must meet basic requirements (depends on your course/program). Compile your application dossier, and pass the selection process including psychological profiling, math/physics assessments, an aptitude test, and an interview.
